Spring is right around the corner, along with green shoots, budding trees, and flowering plants you’ll notice open house signs in and around each neighborhood. The official buying season is upon us; if you’re a pet owner or prospective pet owner keep these thoughts in mind when searching for a new home:
1) Safety features – Make sure the property around the home that you are looking at includes pet-friendly safety features such as secure fencing without gaps or spaces for your pet to get stuck or escape. This will ensure that you pet remains safe. This is especially important if the new home has a backyard pool.
2) Outdoor space – Your new home will be a space for everyone – including the furry members of the family – to relax and enjoy. Look for homes with plenty of outdoor space which allows for roaming and safe outdoor play that you and your pet can enjoy together. It’s time to start getting excited for a fun game of fetch!
3) Flooring – Durable floors such as laminate or wood can withstand wear and tear associated with younger pets. If there are stairs, make sure they have an anti-skid surface so your pet can travel from floor to floor safely.
4) Amenities – Don’t limit your research to the home itself. Take a look around the neighborhood and look for important features such as sidewalks, wide quiet streets, dog parks, local trails, or playgrounds. Thesecan make for enjoyable time spent with your pet.
Buying a new home can be both exciting and stressful, but keeping a few pet-friendly thoughts in mind can ensure both you and your pet will enjoy the home of your dreams for many years to come!
